Down a quiet lane in Arkley, on the edge of Barnet, Padel Tree runs one of its seven clubs, the rest spread across Hertfordshire, London, Essex and Surrey. The operator's pitch is simple: turn up alone and they will put you in a game, with "free parking, no rush".

Everything is booked through Playtomic, including events, and the club points players there for live availability and sessions.

The weekly programme includes 90-minute mixed-ability socials where solo players are paired up, beginner clinics of six players with one coach and equipment provided, Improvers Coaching on Thursdays from 11.30am to 1pm, match play, eight-week leagues and ladders, and tournaments ranging from Americanos to club championships.
